Listeria Outbreak Recall: 7 Million Pounds of Boars Head Deli Meat Affected

Expanded Recall

Boars Head Provisions Co Inc. has expanded its recall of deli meat products to include an additional 7 million pounds due to concerns of Listeria contamination. The initial recall, issued on July 26, 2024, has been expanded to encompass a wider range of products and distribution areas.

Affected Products

The recalled deli meats include various types of sliced deli meat, including ham, turkey, and roast beef. The products were produced at a plant in Jarratt, Virginia, and have been distributed to retail stores across the United States.

Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators for any affected products and discard them immediately. A full list of recalled products is available on the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website.

Health Concerns

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause serious illness, including listeriosis. Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, it can lead to meningitis or bloodstream infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Precautions

Consumers who have purchased recalled Boars Head deli meat should not consume it. They should return it to the store for a full refund or discard it properly. Additionally, it is important to clean and sanitize any surfaces that may have come into contact with the contaminated meat.

If you believe you have consumed contaminated deli meat and are experiencing symptoms of listeriosis, seek medical attention immediately.
